Recognizing the importance of nurturing local talent and providing opportunities for aspiring filmmakers and photographers, The Canon Miraisha Programme collaborates with Zebra Productions Ltd on an initiative aimed at fostering filmmakers' skills and further developing the film industry within the Kenyan creative community.

The partnership between Canon Miraisha and Zebra Productions Ltd, a leading film and television company in Kenya, marks a new era of collaboration, merging expertise and resources to offer comprehensive training workshops in video and still photography.

The Canon Miraisha Programme and Zebra Productions share a common vision of nurturing creativity and fostering self-expression. Through a dedicated 3-month mentorship programme, participants received personalized guidance and support, ensuring their development as storytellers and media professionals. The students' feedback highlighted their newfound skills and confidence in videography, expressing gratitude for the comprehensive training programme that equipped them with technical expertise and creative abilities. They noted the value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance instilled throughout the course.

The programme not only provided cutting-edge equipment but also passionate mentors who inspired them. As a result, they felt prepared to take the first steps towards a career in filmmaking and photography. The Class of 2023 received certificates, marking the start of their journey as storytellers. Some standout grads landed jobs on the famous Kenyan TV show 'Salem.' Three are behind-the-scenes photographers, capturing the show's magic, while four are interns supporting the camera crew for daily episodes. The training turned into real-world success!

During the 3-month period, participants were exposed to practical workshops allowing them to learn on-the-job skills on real-life television sets while using Canon technology. They also received weekly assignments to ensure their new skill set was mastered and unlocked to its full potential. Guided by Canon certified trainers and industry professionals, participants received one-on-one mentorship and acquired valuable business skills such as how to pitch to clients, representation, morals, code of conduct, and ethics all relating to the Kenyan film industry. Through this training period, participants were prepared and empowered to embark on careers in the film and TV industry.

The training concluded with a graduation ceremony and a photo/video exhibition displaying the participants' works to the local community of Nderi, Nairobi, Kenya. Emphasizing inclusivity and accessibility, the initiative prioritized the representation and elevation of diverse voices within the industry. By equipping aspiring filmmakers and photographers with the necessary skills and opportunities, Canon Miraisha and Zebra Productions Ltd aim to catalyze a transformative shift, empowering the next generation of Kenyan storytellers.
