INSPIRING CREATIVITY TOGETHER: Canon Miraisha X LAGOSPHOTO
The Canon Miraisha Programme, in collaboration with the LagosPhoto Festival, represents a significant step in nurturing the creative spirits of photography enthusiasts across Africa. The LagosPhoto Festival, an initiative of the African Artists' Foundation, has been a platform since 2010 for African photographers to showcase their work and connect with peers globally. The 2023 edition of the festival, saw a collaboration with the Miraisha programme, span across new cities, these being, Lagos (Nigeria), Cotonou, and Ouidah (Republic of Benin).
Through various programs like street photography workshops, student-to-pro talks, product photography masterclasses, and portfolio reviews, the collaboration aimed to equip young talents with fundamental photography and digital imaging skills, empowering them to turn their passions into sustainable livelihoods. The Street Photography workshop, a key component of the collaboration, targeted young adults aged 18-30 with a keen interest in photography.
Participants, ranging from beginners to experts, gathered in Nigeria and Benin Republic to delve into camera skills, lighting techniques, composition principles, and more. The workshop provided a platform for participants to enhance their technical skills and network with like-minded individuals.
Participants noted significant improvements in their camera skills, with 90% acknowledging a better understanding of composition, including the rule of thirds and color palettes.
Overall, the partnership between Canon Miraisha and the LagosPhoto Festival successfully empowered a new wave of talented photographers and videographers in Africa, promising a bright future for the region's creative scene.
